Many wonder where Sam Bankman-Fried of FTX (or rather the name, at this point) has gone. The CEO resigned from his company in mid-November to fall, and has not been seen or heard from since.
Is Sam Bankman-Fried Missing?
So where is he? There seems to be a lot of speculation online about the president’s whereabouts, with some saying he boarded a private plane and fled to Argentina. Apparently a newspaper sent him a message asking the question only to get a text saying “No.”
Others say he fled to the Bahamas where FTX is based, although he is more likely doing research there now. The man has disappeared in recent weeks after his business collapsed and became a national embarrassment.
One reporter – Caitlin Ostroff, who works at the Wall Street Journal – said it was not like him at all. He says he is always friendly and responds quickly to questions or requests for interviews and information. He said:
You will send an email to the FTX media team, and Sam Bankman-Fried himself will send you a message. It’s easy to get, easy to get.
Recently, however, that attitude seems to be changing, with one reporter saying that he was angry at the transfer call and seemed to be intimidated into answering certain questions such as where it depends. The reporter reported that this was Bankman-Fried’s response during the online meeting at his location:
I, uh, so, sorry, I, I hesitate because I always sleep in a bag… I’m alive, I don’t know. Technically, I live alone, but I don’t sleep there. I sleep well on sofas and ottomans.
So What Does Sam Bankman Do?
It’s just, give me more, give me more, give me more, so I’ll borrow money, lend it to my partners, hope and pretend that the FTT symbol is on my balance sheet will retain their value.
The Situation Is Big and Bad
FTX and its subsequent collapse will go down in history as some of the biggest crypto crashes. At only three years old, FTX became famous shortly after opening its doors in 2019.
Just a few weeks ago, the company asked Binance for help, saying that it was experiencing “financial problems” and that it was unlikely to survive unless the big company was willing to help.
Unfortunately, the deal did not go through and the business has since collapsed.
